Time for an update on How to Help Your Child with Fifth Grade Mathematics.
At this point, half way through Camp NaNoWriMo, I have part of the Introduction written. That seemed like a natural place to start.
As I’m going to self-publish this book through Lean Publishing, I thought I’d start with the chapters that I intend to be part of the sample that potential readers can download for free. I’ve been working on the first standard in each of the five domains.
I’ve completed the chapter on parentheses, brackets and braces for Operations and Algebraic Thinking.
I worked on the introduction to Number and Operations in Base Ten, and completed the first chapter in that section on patterns in our place value system.
I’ve spent several days now working on Adding and Subtracting Fractions. That chapter is still in progress.
I set a goal for myself of 10,000 words for Camp NaNoWriMo. That averages out to 333 words per day. I’m currently averaging 573 words per day, and have written a total of 8,606 words.
In terms of my goals, I’m well ahead there, and yet I haven’t completed as much of the book as I would have liked. I clearly underestimated how much I was going to have to write. On the other hand, the writing is coming along nicely, and I am pleased with what I have written so far.
I think when I have finished this chapter, I will publish the book.
